Hi David,

I can present a few slides but the Tuesday 6am Pacific slot does not work well
for me (this is right in the middle of my Tuesday mornings commute), perhaps
Mark can handle this?

We’re in the process of discussing the versioning situation in OPNFV test
projects, with question such as how can a project benefit from an independent
release model and what would be the practical impact for the teams, whether it
could also follow the OPNFV release model.... I think it would be good to have
a first feedback from each project PTL, as of now, the only projects I know of
that support independent release and versioning are Storperf and nfvbench.
These 2 also happen to also follow the OPNFV release cycle although I’m not
sure for how much longer.
I had some discussion with Vsperf, Yardstick, Bottleneck teams and I think they
need a bit of time to digest/think about the options.
Functest is clearly very much aligned with OPNFV release as it is gating it. I
am still very unclear what other test project is gating directly OPNFV release?
Would you or Trevor happen to know?

I have not got any discussion with any other test project team but would be
happy to (email looks easiest method).

Thanks

   Alec

Hi Alec,

I suggest that you put together some slides to present to the weekly technical
discussion meeting; get feedback; then make a proposal to the TSC. Thanks.

Thanks for pointing that out Mark, I have been asking for this for almost 2
years and we’re finally able to do that.
TBH I’m not sure what the TSC can say other than approve it since that is in
direct alignment with a former TSC decision to promote the use of OPNFV project
outside of OPNFV platforms and with a key decision in Fraser to change the
format of OPNFV release tags to use opnfv prefixed tags and reserve 3-digit
versioning tags for project specific releases.

In the normal course of events, we should now slowly be moving every active
test project versioning to use their own 3-digit versioning and have PTLs drive
their respective release in a much more rational way and ultimately allow OPNFV
releases to gate their releases using independently versioned OPNFV tools (in
the same way they would use any other non-OPNFV tools). This should also
simplify and lighten up quite a bit the load on OPNFV releng and release
management.

Hi,

I would like to make this a TSC sanctioned method... Task for Release Process

Hello all!

I noticed there has been a fair amount of discussion about individual projects
releasing independently of the OPNFV full (Gambia, etc) release cycle. I
thought I would mention that the current OPNFV tagging strategy does support
arbitrary tags for docker releases. Therefore if your project releases
artifacts via docker push, it is currently possible to simply push a tag and
that will cause a release to be published to docker hub. I do not know if this
is an officially TSC sanctioned method, but if there is an immediate demand
from end users (ie, yes I have been asked for ‘stable’ releases for StorPerf),
then you can push a tag and that will publish the artifact to docker hub and
represent a milestone in your project.

Just my $0.02 (CAD) for what it is worth these days :)

Regards,
Mark
