Use the saved electricity cost to invest in a router model that is not
10 years old.

Kernel 2.6 on WRT54GL units is instable but a requirement for proper
IPv6 firewalling. Kernel 2.4 is stable but does not support IPv6
conntracking. It also has only 4MB flash, 16MB ram and no USB.

Get something like a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND or a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH or
a Netgear WNDR3700 or WNDR3800. Those units will support your
featureset (in some cases by extending the flash rootfs onto a USB
attached thumbdrive).
