Hi, The actual configure options for official packages can be verified from the "rules" file (here is the one in Debian Jessie):
<https://github.com/mattock/sbuild_wrapper/blob/master/packaging/jessie/debian/rules> The "override_dh_auto_configure" section lists the configure options. If you build from source you typically need to carefully review configure's output and ensure that all the desired features could be enabled. For example, if systemd development package is not installed, configure will disable systemd support, even if you system is systemd-based. -- Samuli Seppänen Community Manager OpenVPN Technologies, Inc irc freenode net: mattock > Well, there could be some differences in terms of security. > If you use systemd to run OpenVPN, it would restrict OpenVPN > capabilities and device access. > If you just compile OpenVPN from source code and won't use systemd unit, > you won't get this functionality. > > The example is rather contrived, but still. > > On 12/28/2015 10:25 PM, Gert Doering wrote: >> Hi, >> >> On Mon, Dec 28, 2015 at 07:45:10PM +0100, Sebastian Rubenstein wrote: >> You'd get exactly the same results as with the officially-built .deb, >> *except* that your package manager (apt etc.) will not know about the >> installation, and that the binaries will reside in /usr/local/ not /usr/ >> >> Just looking at the "openvpn" binary, no difference. >> >> gert >> >> >> >> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ >> >> >> _______________________________________________ >> Openvpn-users mailing list >> Openvpn-users@lists.sourceforge.net >> https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/openvpn-users > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > > > _______________________________________________ > Openvpn-users mailing list > Openvpn-users@lists.sourceforge.net > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/openvpn-users > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Openvpn-users mailing list Openvpn-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/openvpn-users
