I know Heiko Hund (one of our upstream developers) have been working
on a completely new approach for tackling the Windows environment.

I'm quite sure Heiko would appreciate more people willing to do more
testing, debugging and hacking on his stuff.  That will definitely
help the review process for getting his patches upstream into an
official release too.
