This isn't traps, but NetSNMP can run a command and publish its output. I push lots of things to nagios this way, e.g. smartctl -H or iowait (in the rrd graph plugin format so I get shiny pictures too). All you need is a script to pull what you're looking for out of the log.

As for the security, if someone wants to find out I have 20 healthy disks and 3% iowait on my cinder host, they could just ask...
