WHOA !!! Calm down. I think you have taken what I said out of context. Allow me to clear this up.
1.) I am not slagging off Redhat in anyway, I am just keen to solve the openssl problem. I like redhat as a OS, I think it is good, it works well and appears quite stable, and bugs fixes are quite common when found. I don't like rpm packages for my own reasons. I like to build from source for the following reasons. 1.) I know it was built on a machine identical to mine (ie mine) 2.) I don't have to worry about hundreds of other RPMS needed to install dependancies. 3.) I can tweak the build to match my own spec I admit that I am knowingly doing damage to certain applications on my system, however I CHOSE to install those from source for the same reasons as above, ie wu-ftp redhat 7.3 default build is a poor build (in my opinion). I am not trying to break my system, simpley remove the default packages that do not meet my requirements and build them to match what I want. this is not breaking my system, this is tuning it to my needs. As you stated on the whole redhat is good, but certain packages are crap - so not really a contradiction. I have read through the archives and found a few similar posts on google for openssl 9.4, however the post you refer to does not mention why I am having a seg fault. I am keen to get to the bottom of why, and found out where openssl/gcc/redhat the bug is and report it as a bug and then fix it. Can you shed any light on why the segmentation fault is occuring. I found only 1 reference to this on openssl 9.6g and that was on google, there has been no reply yet.
