The User Certificates can be imported into Netscape using MIME
"application/x-x509-user-cert". This we do to import personal Certificates
to "Certificates->Yours" category. But may be the same mime works to import
into "People" category also as the private key cannot be found for these
certificates. May be you can try this. Provide a small web interface where
in user can enter the email id of his friend. At the server may be a CGI
script, servlet can take the mail id and dump the certificate to browser
with the above MIME type set as Content-Type. I haven't tried this, but it
may work. Sorry, if I troubled you with some hint which is not tested. I
will try this and confirm latter. Meanwhile if it is urgent you can try
this. Regards

Subject: importing public certs into Netscape
Does anyone know how to import public certificates into Netscape (for email
use)? I used the openssl software to create email certs for a bunch of
people. I kept a copy of their public certs in files, which I imported into
Outlook so I can send them encrypted mail. I'd like to use Netscape for
mail, but I can't find a way to import the public certs. Netscape appears
to require that other people's public certs come from a Directory service or
a signed email. Is there a way around this? Other/better email program
suggestions would also be appreciated.
Sorry if this is slightly off subject, but I've gotten no response from
email to Netscape or postings to alt.netscape and Netscape's own
(secnews.netscape.com)netscape.security newsgroup. I thought the people in
this group are probably more aware and concerned with this type of problem.
TIA,
david
