I would think that if one viewed JPack as something that could in turn plug into a larger framework (and if it can function read-only as well as with the ability to make modifications), the two could be combined somehow; and indeed, solview could eventually become more than just a viewer of some of the other stuff, esp. if it started out in an overview mode, with drilling down or making changes available according to one's privileges.

If they're both in Java anyway, it would be nice if they worked client/server (communicating with serialized objects maybe), so that one could securely authenticate to, view, and configure remote systems without the bandwidth of X11 display-back (let alone X11 tunnelled through ssh).
If that's going to happen (and it's a pretty obvious thought that hadn't poked its way into my own consciousness yet) then I guess JMX would be the technology. It's used by chime for remoting, and I've been encouraged to do the same for jkstat. -- -Peter Tribble http://www.petertribble.co.uk/ - http://ptribble.blogspot.com/ _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
