That's a rather open-ended question.
In the case of the topic which spurred this thread, there isn't much --
most of the original design is old, and is now documented in textbooks.
The new projects which are in development are undergoing significant
prototyping and rewriting on a regular basis as the algorithms are in flux
(we'd like to believe this is an exact science but it isn't). The
documentation which does exist is squirrelled away in my notebook, and in
a dark obscure corner somewhere where you can't find it. ;)
All this is why folks like me need to learn to sit down and write this
stuff up more often so we can share it with the world. This OpenSolaris
thing is still pretty new to us as developers. :)
