Does the book 'Solaris Internals version 1' still give a good overview

It's still accurate. Advancements like ccNUMA support (MPO) and MPSS are
too new for that book, and will be covered in the upcoming version 2
release -- but these features were bolted onto the existing design rather
than significantly retrofitting it.
The design refactor is what is starting now.
