That's my understanding of ETM/ETB as well... It's something
you turn to when normal debugging means don't give you
answers effectively anymore. The problem is that you also
then need to invest in learning a new skillset to solve a specific
bug.

The nice thing about hooking ETM/ETB up to GDB would be that
you could use your existing skills & tools to view the ETM/ETB
data.
