Right.  That's sort-of-explained in the ARM920t reference manual.

What's not explained, as I recall, is just *why* there are
so many access methods.  Surely it ought to suffice to just
execute the darn instruction!

I suspect that since this all dates from relatively early
days of ARM9 cores, the engineers didn't have very clean
models for how this stuff would get used ... so the result
was a mess, instead of something that's easy to explain,
use, and understand.
