You have an excellent opportunity to show that you are interested
in helping the OpenOCD community beyond the narrow scope
of getting precisely your patch accepted here.

If you prefer waiting until someone at some point does some cleanup
work that you can create a nicer patch on top of, then I suppose that
could work for you as well.
