The attached patch removes all of the deprecated commands that I could find. I also added any previously unlisted deprecated commands to the appendix. This does not update all of the documentation to move away from the now obsolete commands. I plan a larger change to the documentation that will
incorporate those changes.

I'm in favour of removing obsolete commands. Especially before 1.0.

The right thing, I believe, is to consider the needs of future end users.
The assumption is the users today represent only 10% of future end
users.

If there are more pleasant syntaxes, then they can be built on top of the
core syntax in utility Tcl script files that can ship with OpenOCD or
users can build themselves.

Does that mean that you wish to have a tcl script (perhaps named obsolete.tcl) that implements the obsolete syntax using the new syntax? That would provide a simple upgrade path for users while still excising the old syntax from the main code base. It is also clear to the end users that they are using an obsolete syntax.

Are there other syntax changes that should be made before 1.0? If so, what are they?

Do you wish me to update the patch to include the obsolete.tcl idea?
