I have a laptop, an ASUS Eee PC 1005PE, that now has 2 gigs of memory. The memory upgrade allowed me to do a package upgrade from a Hipster BE of 2017-06-10 to yesterday's version of 2019-03-01 .
I haven't verified the timeline, but for an upgrade from that far out of date, you probably also need to look into the switch from the old desktop environment to MATE. It could also be that you just need to activate the MATE graphical login. What's the state of svc:/application/graphical-login/lightdm:default ? I've not tried to dual-boot OI, so I won't even take a shot that this:
Now I have another problem. I had an entry in the GRUB menu to boot the Windows FDKISK partion, but this too has disappeared. How do I boot the Windows partition now?
