The only problems that I had, occurred when I was a little too careless with ports and installed some graphics drivers. They provide nice GUI's for Jails and all their programs so you rarely need to use the Commandline. I haven't tested Lumina though, only used KDE.
So as long as you are careful with ports It's worth a shot. But you will run into the same Problems as in OI when you require Closed-Source Program's. Some are just not there yet.
