Toxic bug reports like this one made me stop reading bug reports for kmail to 
protect my mental health.

You could have worded it a bit more politely. Or, even better, you could have 
ignored it. I know from own experience that ignoring such reports is hard, but 
I think it's the best option for everyone. Simply delete such toxic bug report 
emails and try to forget about them. You have no obligation to justify the 
decisions and actions of the Okular team (or any other Free Software team) to 
anybody.
