I've overcome my problems I think by reading the docs. Please have a look at my code here for the firefox okular plugin: http://github.com/jeremysanders/okularplugin Comments are welcome! There's one big hack in the code which is to set the active window on mouse enter events. This is required otherwise the plugin loses keyboard events if firefox opens new windows. The plugin should also work with opera.
