I have invented dozens of things in my career. But inventing a thing and getting it widely used are two very different things. And often, it is a matter of timing. We had social media on the Web back at the first Web conference in 1994. But it took a decade before Web/2.0 took off. It wasn't a lack of technology: people weren't yet ready for it. What we have now is an OAuth2 authentication provider with almost 28 million DNS handles registered and an active user base of over five million. I believe that is likely to represent sufficient critical mass to make widespread deployment a possibility
