Several birders tried for the Franklin's Gull at the Batavia WWTP on Monday.
It was found the day previous and was seen early Monday morning but was not
found afterwards. However, the four Red-necked Phalaropes continue there and
Celeste Morien found a Wilson's Phalarope there. As expected for this time
of year, there was a wide variety of ducks there as well.

In the afternoon, Iroquois NWR refuge biologist, Paul Hess, found 21
Hudsonian Godwits at Kumpf Marsh, Iroquois NWR. The birds stayed long enough
for at least a few birders to see them. Also at Kumpf were two White-rumped
Sandpipers, 2 Dunlin, 4 Pectoral Sandpipers, one Long-billed Dowitcher, 6
Wilson's Snipe, and 9 Black-bellied Plovers. The 21 Godwits were the second
highest count for this species ever in Kingbird Region One. 37 were found at
Times Beach in Buffalo on August 17, 1974. The 21 Godwits at Kumpf appeared
to be all juveniles, whereas the 37 at Times Beach were likely all adults,
based upon the time of year. Adult shorebirds generally migrate earlier in
fall than the juveniles.

Good birding!
