7/15/15 Long Lake (Hamilton Co.)

A Northern Goshawk was vocalizing in the forest off our front lawn this
morning!

7/14/15 Glens Falls (Warren Co.)

After giving a morning presentation in Warrensburg, I shopped in Glens Falls
and once again heard a Fish Crow vocalizing! This is becoming a common
event in that area.

7/13/15 Long Lake

A fledgling Hermit Thrush hit a window of our house on Monday. It appeared
to just be stunned, so I left it alone. Later, one of the adults was nearby
to feed it. Seeing a tail-less, fledgling Hermit Thrush on 7/13 was a month
later than usual. I suspect that many of the ground nesting birds had nest
failures this year.

On a 7/11/15 tour with a birder from Michigan, we went up Whiteface Mountain
at dawn, and then visited lowland boreal habitat in Bloomingdale and Long
Lake. As is often the case in the first half of July, we immediately found
a singing Bicknell's Thrush on an open perch that we observed for over 15
minutes! We found the following 55 species:

Broad-winged Hawk

Mourning Dove

Barred Owl

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - including a recently fledged bird out on its nest
tree!

Downy Woodpecker

Hairy Woodpecker

Black-backed Woodpecker - 2! (female and male)

Northern Flicker

Pileated Woodpecker

Merlin - on the summit of Whiteface

Yellow-bellied Flycatcher

calling and singing, and some flying around.

Nashville Warbler

Mourning Warbler

Common Yellowthroat
