Hi Elieen, Sorry to hear about that. Others can correct me but I believe the runways have been off-limit for some time now. Over the winter when looking at the Short-eared Owls, birders and photographers alike *(at least when I was there)* were all parked off the runways and were looking at the birds. I think the only automobile that ventured on the runways on the day I was there happened to be a non birder and that was corrected in a hurry by a cop who actually checked in with us to see if the perp was from our party.
I wonder if this heavy handedness is by design to discourage or there really is a legitimate reason. Disappointed to know that you were not just warned and instead became a database entry. Yet another reason for birders to get more involved with conservation to build a stronger lobby.
