Hey all,

The PIPL crew and I just found a male American Avocet in the "hazardous area"
impoundment at Smith Point County Park (my "third" usage refers to the two that
Andrew found earlier at Jamaica Bay). The impoundment is about 3.5 miles east
of the parking area at Smith Point, and another couple miles west of Moriches
Inlet. There were also at least 5 Stilt Sandpipers counted in the impoundment
and hundreds of peeps and dowitchers seen before a peregrine spooked everything
off. Luckily, the avocet has returned.

Note- there is still no driving on the beach. Should be open soon though!
