I just did a quick, but pertinent update to my current running feature on adult Iceland Gull variation, to add a link to a page I posted a year ago. The first three pictures on that page are of an unusually dark immature Iceland type gull at Jones Beach - possibly what the Central Park bird would look like with better photos.

While I am not qualified to make any kind of call on this Gull the members there enjoy these kinds of discussions and maybe it will help with the id. The discussion thread can be found at. http://www.whatbird.com/forum/index.php?/topic/113547-gull-id-from-ny-listse rv/. On the sleeping photo, although it looks like a bleached looking individual, I would have a hard time not calling this bird a Thayer's type In flight it gives a different perspective and the primaries seen in flight does not show as dark. However, the photos are over exposed and could be causing some issues here with that so I am not sure. Kumlien's range makes this a tough one to call based on these photos alone even if the plumage and tail band seems odd. In addition, the variation in plumage of Kumlien's makes this even more intriguing and I have seen some photos from birds upstate this year that look very much like this one. Photos can lie so more documentation is needed on this bird and definitely worth tracking down. I hope it is refound and better photos presented for discussion. Good luck CP birders. Report these birds!!! Even if it is an Iceland Gull, it is post worthy. Cheers! Would be worth tracking that one down again. An immature white-winged gull, possibly a Thayer's, was on the reservoir Sunday, along with several hundred other gulls and a definite Kumlien's. There has been quite a bit of debate on various facebook groups, and I would welcome more opinions. I'm going to try to re-find the bird tomorrow to get better pictures, as the ones I've got are distant and overexposed. https://www.flickr.com/photos/elwingflight/sets/72157640157804394/ Anya Auerbach -- NYSbirds-L List Info: <http://www.northeastbirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME> Welcome and Basics <http://www.northeastbirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES> Rules and Information <http://www.northeastbirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm> Subscribe, Configuration and Leave Archives: The Mail Archive <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.html> <http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L> Surfbirds BirdingOnThe.Net <http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html> Please submit your observations to <http://ebird.org/content/ebird/> eBird! -- __._,_.___ <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ebirdsnyc/post;_ylc=X3oDMTJyY2hnYWk0BF9TAzk3M zU5NzE0BGdycElkAzEzMzM2MzUwBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA2NTc4NwRtc2dJZAMxMzIyNARzZWMDZ nRyBHNsawNycGx5BHN0aW1lAzEzOTE0ODY2MTQ-?act=reply&messageNum=13224> Reply via web post <mailto:[email protected]?subject=Re%3A%20Fwd%3A%20%5Bnysbirds-l%5D%20Ku mlien%27s%2FThayer%27s%20Gull%20on%20CP%20Resevoir%20Sunday> Reply to sender <mailto:[email protected]?subject=Re%3A%20Fwd%3A%20%5Bnysbirds-l%5D% 20Kumlien%27s%2FThayer%27s%20Gull%20on%20CP%20Resevoir%20Sunday> Reply to group <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ebirdsnyc/post;_ylc=X3oDMTJmZXFkNTBsBF9TAzk3M zU5NzE0BGdycElkAzEzMzM2MzUwBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA2NTc4NwRzZWMDZnRyBHNsawNudHBjB HN0aW1lAzEzOTE0ODY2MTQ-> Start a New Topic <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ebirdsnyc/message/13224;_ylc=X3oDMTM3aDFqbGY2 BF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzEzMzM2MzUwBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA2NTc4NwRtc2dJZAMxMzIy NARzZWMDZnRyBHNsawN2dHBjBHN0aW1lAzEzOTE0ODY2MTQEdHBjSWQDMTMyMjQ-> Messages in this topic (1) Recent Activity: . <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ebirdsnyc/members;_ylc=X3oDMTJnMWIwaHN2BF9TAz k3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzEzMzM2MzUwBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA2NTc4NwRzZWMDdnRsBHNsawN2bW JycwRzdGltZQMxMzkxNDg2NjE0?o=6> New Members 1 <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ebirdsnyc;_ylc=X3oDMTJmcWtnMjRiBF9TAzk3MzU5Nz E0BGdycElkAzEzMzM2MzUwBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA2NTc4NwRzZWMDdnRsBHNsawN2Z2hwBHN0aW 1lAzEzOTE0ODY2MTQ-> Visit Your Group ebirdsnyc: bird sightings from the NYC area <http://groups.yahoo.com/;_ylc=X3oDMTJlcjFpMTY4BF9TAzk3NDc2NTkwBGdycElkAzEzM zM2MzUwBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA2NTc4NwRzZWMDZnRyBHNsawNnZnAEc3RpbWUDMTM5MTQ4NjYxN A--> Image removed by sender.
