Joan Quinlan and I did some birding today in search of spring migrants at a
few locations in Queens. Our first stop was at Forest Park, where we spent
a few hours looking and listening for the reported Pine Warblers, but we
did not hear or see any. We did have a few notables including a good
number of GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS indicating an overnight movement seemed
to have occurred with this species.

Highlights were: GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET (17), YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER (2),
HAIRY WOODPECKER (5), FOX SPARROW (3) EASTERN PHOEBE (11) - most seen near
the railroad tracks as they used the sunlit areas to fly-catch and TURKEY
VULTURE (1). The waterhole is dry save for water in one container.

Moving onto Alley Pond Park, we again skunked on warblers, but had some of
the same birds like we had at Forest. Highlights were: GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLET (11), YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER (3), EASTERN PHOEBE (5) and RUSTY
BLACKBIRD (16)

Good April Birding!
