Sunday, 25 September, 2011 - Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City
A nice fresh batch of migrants has pushed into and over Manhattan this morning. From the north end of Central Park, already sighted have been both Cuckoo species (Black-billed going into the Loch below wildflower meadow; & multiple Yellow-billed around), 20+ Warbler species highlighted (so far) by a Yellow-breasted Chat west of the Blockhouse (where there was much other early migrant activity), my first-of-fall Blue-headed Vireo and Dark-eyed Junco 9along with modestly more sparrows, mostly White-throated), and excellent numbers of thrushes (with Swainson's most common but some Gary-cheeked/ Bicknell's types as well as Wood Thrush and Veery) and some fly-over activity including a few Bobolimks at very low elevation early on, but heading south over the higher terrain.
Much more ought be noted by the end of this day. I encountered zero other birders in the north, however Ramblers and other are about... Spots in the north that could be good later include much of the Great Hill, the Loch, the wildflower meadow, and possibly the north woods. The eastern-most sections (Meer area, etc.) seemed relatively quieter - in early a.m.
There may well be some good sightings from other parts of Manhattan this Sunday.
