I had to wait only a few minutes after I arrived about 8:30am. The Tanager
was in the suet feeder that was in the platform feeder for only a few minutes
at 30 yds. from the red barn that shielded me from the wind. Then it flew into
an evergreen to my left just 15 yards from me but was partially (mostly?)
hidden. It sat motionless with its back to me and finally I gave in and left.
The view from the suet feeder was superior. My thanks to the Colby's

There is an immature male Summer Tanager coming to the suet feeders of Mrs.
Fran Colby in Spencerport. She is willing to have people visit in the event
that this bird remains after this coming storm. If you would like to watch for
the bird, park in front of her house and walk the lane to the red barn on the
west side of the house. The bird can be seen in the suit feeders around the
back side of the house. Best time to visit is between 8 am and 9:30 am. The
bird has not been reported very often outside of that time period and has not
been seen in the afternoons.

Mrs. Colby's address is:

516 Colby Street, Spencerport, NY.

Directions: Take I 490 west through Rochester to Rt. 531. Continue west to
its western endpoint at Washington St (NYS Rt 36) and turn left. Go south to
the the first street, Colby Street, turn left (east) and go about a half mile.
Her house is on the north side of the street. Good luck if you try for this
bird.
