I'm glad to see that the word is getting out about the new online Kingbird
archive on the NYSOA website. What has not been mentioned in these notes
(unless I missed it) is that the archive is not only viewable and
downloadable, but searchable! We expect that the archive will become an
invaluable resource to researchers and a treasure trove of interesting and
educational material for everyone.
The application hasn't been officially launched yet because we are still
tying up a few loose ends, but we expect to complete it this month.
NYSOA members, look for an article about the online Kingbird archive in the
January issue of NYSOA's newsletter, "New York Birders."
Many thanks to John and Matt for their kind words and even more for their
support of NYSOA. Those of you who are not members yet, please consider
joining and supporting NYSOA's important work. You'll get the quarterly
newsletter plus 4 new issues of The Kingbird each year, which Shai Mitra has
taken to the next level by instituting a peer review process and
incorporating beautiful color photos. To become a member of NYSOA, visit the
website at www.nybirds.org.

Subject: [nysbirds-l] past "Kingbird" Journals now on-line!!
Hello all,
Don't know if anyone saw this or why it has not been celebrated. 56 years of
past Kingbird Journals can now be viewed on-line! This is a great
accomplishment and a great resource for all! For those that don't know, The
Kingbird Journal is the NYS Ornithological Journal that started in 1950.
As Berna Lincoln mentioned in an earlier post, the New York State Avian
Records Committee (NYSARC -- this committee reviews reports of rare bird
sightings in the state) is a committee of the New York State Ornithological
Association (NYSOA). The Kingbird is the Journal that NYSOA puts out
quarterly. See their website for access to the past journals and for
membership information. Everyone that birds in NY should be a member!

The site seemed to function fine fore me and I checked several years
including 1950 and 2006.
cheers,
Matt Young
