Monday morning produced a moderate landbird flight along Long Island barrier beaches. I was at Fort Tilden, Queens County, where the flight was dominated by cedar waxwings. I observed approximately 950 of them from 8-10:00 a.m., by which time the flight had tapered off. Other species well represented in the flight included yellow-rumped and palm warbler, and eastern phoebe. A flock of 32 killdeer flew over, and 8 indigo buntings seemed like a good number. Sparrows were in low numbers with the exception of savannah. I heard that pretty much the same was seen further east.
Good birds included a clay-colored sparrow along the fence south of the Riis Park Golf Course, a Lincoln's sparrow in the Army Reserve Station at Ft. Tilden, and a late eastern wood-pewee and chimney swift at Ft. Tilden. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES Archives: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.html 2) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
