Monday morning produced a moderate landbird flight along Long Island barrier
beaches. I was at Fort Tilden, Queens County, where the flight was
dominated by cedar waxwings. I observed approximately 950 of them from
8-10:00 a.m., by which time the flight had tapered off. Other species well
represented in the flight included yellow-rumped and palm warbler, and
eastern phoebe. A flock of 32 killdeer flew over, and 8 indigo buntings
seemed like a good number. Sparrows were in low numbers with the exception
of savannah. I heard that pretty much the same was seen further east.

Good birds included a clay-colored sparrow along the fence south of the Riis
Park Golf Course, a Lincoln's sparrow in the Army Reserve Station at Ft.
Tilden, and a late eastern wood-pewee and chimney swift at Ft. Tilden.
