Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     8/11: 2 WILSON’S PHALAROPE’S  and 4 DOWITCHER species were seen at May’s 
Point Pool. 5 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON’S were found in Knox-Marcellus Marsh.
     8/15: 2 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were seen in May’s Point Pool.
     8/16: 1 WILSON’S PHALAROPE was seen in May’s Point Pool. 1 WHITE-RUMPED 
SANDPIPER and 1 SANDHILL CRANE were seen from the Wildlife Drive.


Oswego County
------------

     8/12: 10 species fo shorebirds were found at Sandy Pond including 
WHIMBREL, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER. Also found were 
BLACK TERN and OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER. 
     8/15: A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was seen at a private residence in West 
Monroe.


Onondaga County
------------

     8/13: A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen at the Three Rivers WMA.
     8/14: The SNOWY OWL being seen near Baldwinsville last week turned up at 
Wegman’s on Rt.31 to the east. It was eventually captured and brought to a 
wildlife rehabilitator.  2 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were found near Syracuse 
University at the annual COMMON NIGHTHAWK watch. 1 more showed up the following 
day. A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen flying over Onondaga Lake at the 
marina near Liverpool.


Fort Drum
------------

     The late July-early August bird report from Fort Drum was again very 
impressive. 39 SEDGE WRENS and 17 HENSLOW’S SPARROWS were found singing. COMMON 
NIGHTHAWKS have been very active and up to 9 pair of RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS 
were reported.
