The best thing to do is probably to disable all the scripts and load the
driver by hand and do ifup/ifdown and see what happens. The patch that
you identified is in the code path of ifdown or suspend only. And even
then, the patch does not affect 5702 at all. So this is still a big
mystery to me.

I'll see if I can find a similar machine with on-board 5702 to test. I
tested 5702 add-in cards and they worked fine.
