Wait -- new developments! You are right, it wasn't that code at all. I've concluded (after a very confusing two hours) that I gave you the wrong information, and here's the reason: My machine works correctly after exactly every *other* reboot. I just tried rebooting it a dozen times (warm) and I get that MAC address error from the chip on every other reboot. So, that's why reverting that patch seemed to fix the problem, but it actually didn't: every other change I made seemed to fix the problem, but didn't. However, that gives me the important clue that the problem commit must have been made a day or so earlier than 3-22, because that was the kernel I was running when I rebooted and saw the error for the first time. (I remember thinking that tg3 was seeing a lot of changes in a short time.) Can you think of which of those recent changes might be a likely candidate? - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe netdev" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] More majordomo info at http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-info.html
