Sorry, it is obvious to me! About a week and half ago I started on the
MythTV trek and read all the documentation that said you need to get
your zap2it account with the MythTV code. several attempts later I give up!

You went to labs.zap2it.com and created an account. Once there and logged in, can you choose your channel lineup? Then in mythsetup you enter the same name and password, save, then run mythfilldatabase from a shell prompt?
Where in this process does it not work for you?
