Is using your system truly a seemless experience when you switch between analog and HDTV sources? I'm fearful that building such a system, though possible, will always require fiddling depending on what source I'm using.

I just want to sit down and channel surf and pause and record and playback without the need to think "OK. I'm recording analog channel 7 while watching HDTV channel 8. So, I need to enable this and turn off this...".
