Since it sounds like pulse audio is being enabled/requested at boot-time, 
perhaps you could try the opposite of something that has worked for users with 
GNOME that need pulse audio in order to work correctly.  They use the below 
command, but with =1
Please report back if this helps!

env EXPERIMENTALLY_ALLOW_PULSE_AUDIO=0 mythfrontend --service

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV: Incomplete

Bug description:
The problem seems to be related to pulseaudio, here is my 
.xsession-errors:mythtv.desktop

2009-11-01 10:45:47.539 mythfrontend version: branches/release-0-22-fixes 
[22667] www.mythtv.org
2009-11-01 10:45:47.751 AudioPulseUtil, Warning: Can not connect to sound 
server, can not suspend.
                        Connection refused
2009-11-01 10:45:47.792 ERROR: ***Pulse Audio is running!!!!***
2009-11-01 10:45:47.792 ERROR: But MythTV was not able to suspend it. EXITING!

Note: I can start mythtv by double-clicking the 
.config/autostart/mythtv.desktop file.

Mythbuntu 9.10 with mythtv 0.22.0+fixes22667-0ubuntu0+mythbuntu3
