I had dist-upgraded multiple times. I believe the original install was a mythbuntu 7.10 version. I haven't changed anything with the session starting manually so I believe it is still a mythbuntu session. There seems to be a general issue with mythtv and pulse audio as many times videos will be without audio and I need to do a "killall pulseaudio" to restore it.
