Many questions on the MLO forum are hard to understand, this is because the way people think and organize things within MLO can be very different.
As far as I'm aware it's not possible to set a global option that will prevent inherited dates in sub tasks. You can of course uncheck the 'Inherit parent dates' option, or remove the dates , but only after the sub task has been created. That's not to say such an option wouldn't be useful to your way of working. However beyond this answer, I think we need to look at what the alternative options are. It looks like you are trying to create some kind of list of high level parent tasks, without showing all the small detail of the individual sub-tasks? Obviously dates are important to what you are trying to do, as you are trying to get a view on today's workload. >From my way of thinking (and this is just an opinion) outside of your actual view, it would seem logical that sub-tasks would have either the same date as the parent or an earlier date if I set one. I could be wrong, but I think the issue is, that your trying to remove the inherited sub-task dates to achieve your high level view? If I was trying to achieve this kind of thing myself, I wouldn't fight with the dates, I'd probably enable the flag column in the outline view (right clicking on column header and select 'flag') Then I'd flag the important 'parent' tasks that I want to appear in my non-hierarchical view (by right clicking the flag column. You can manage and create flags from the tools menu. Then I'd create a custom view, that shows tasks today that are flagged with my special 'high level' flag. This isn't very automatic of course, but your only going to need to flag the single parent tasks, rather than each child one. For me this is the only way it would work, as I have quite a complex hierarchy of children of children etc and it would be impossible for MLO to know what level the tasks should be shown at. You could use other ways, such as setting contexts only on the parents, or staring items you want to appear and filtering on that. Another option, is if all your parent tasks are in a single folder, or a few folders, you could create an advanced filtering rule, that states that in order to be visible in your list the ParentName must be a certain value: <https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-FGf-HqhxoDw/VlN1o76_ISI/AAAAAAAAGjQ/B-_szN82e-I/s1600/Capture.JPG> That way, anything that does not have a specific parent, i.e sub tasks, would be filtered out of the view. This is of course moving towards the advanced side of MLO, so it will depend on how comfortable you are with the software. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group.
