Looks like that's not as simple as I'd hoped.
I'm sort of jumping in blind here -- don't know exactly what you're
trying to do -- but have you considered other software? Getmail is an
alternative to fetchmail; getmail can deliver to local mailboxes
directly. And apparently there's something called fdm that does
retrieval, filtering, and delivery.
