Since you apparently write "directory" as a synonym for "folder", I'm going to assume you use Maildirs. Is that particular Maildir on a different mount / filesystem? AFAIK tagging an item in a Maildir involves changing the filename. That could fail for example if the filesystem had a limit on filename length, or prohibited certain characters in filenames. Or, you could be out of inodes on the mount. That has been one complaint about Maildirs, though it never happened to me - I don't get enough mail! -- Please don't Cc: me privately on mailing lists and Usenet, if you also post the followup to the list or newsgroup.
