I tried switching to mutt about 4 years back. I spent about a couple of days to figure out the details, but failed (I was relatively new to *nix at the time). I tried it again last year. I got everything working in 3-4 hrs; including indexing with notmuch[1]! I still wish I could have switched sooner; would have saved me so much time over 3 years.
