Sorry, I mixed up the terminology. In editors it's called folding, mutt calls it “collapsing”. It displays only the first message of each thread by default. folder-hook . 'push <collapse-all>' bind index <space> collapse-thread It makes sense to add the number of collapsed messages to the index_format in this case. Marco
