It's the other way around. You wrote in your original post that you installed the package mutt-patched. Now check that package's description and you will read: This package adds the "sidebar" patch that lists mailboxes with new mail in a separate column on screen. So you have a mutt *with* the sidebar patch that for some reasons does not show you any folders. I don't use the sidebar patch whence I don't know what configuration it requires; but my guess is that it uses whatever you set with the mailboxes command. Ubuntu also has a mutt package without the sidebar patch. Regards Christoph
