I'm already using ReiserFS and maildir.
My freshmeat folder has about that many messages, but it only takes a few seconds to open (never timed it), and I'm using mbox on ext3, so your setup *should* be faster according to the hype. Are you reading from NFS, IMAP, POP, or a 386 or something? Have you tried using hdparm to tune your hard drive? Is mutt being any slower than Evolution was? -- "Tuesday Night at the Movies will be seen on Saturday this week instead of Monday." - television announcer Robert I.
