The problem with this sort of thing is some users like to use '>TB', so you end up 
with crap like:

>TB>> | Foo bar

Is that TB refering to the first quote (>TB) or the second (TB>)?
Typically spaces will remove the ambiguity, but we've all seen how
munged things like this get. Some people can't even work out '>>' means
2 quotes deep (how many messages have you seen saying "I didn't write
this??????" because they misinterpreted quotes?), so adding things like
this makes it even worse.

Also, reflowing code is supposed to remove quotes and regenerate them
anyway (I believe The Bat does this), so (in theory) it'll end up
disappearing in replies.  You're probably better off doing your best to
keep attribution lines correct, and encourage others to do so by using a
simple informative one.

Seriously, what's so wrong with '> ' that it isn't acceptable for
everyone? :)
