<tab> goes to the new new message.

The help screen for the pager tells me, among other things:

J  next-entry            move to the next entry                                        
   
K  previous-entry        move to the previous entry 

...and I don't think I've rebound J or K to be these
specifically, so I think these are the defaults.  In any case,
there are <next-entry> and <previous-entry> commands which you
can bind to your favorite keys.
