xlHtml does a very nice job of converting Excel files to HTML. I then
use w3m to convert the HTML to text. You can get xlHtml from
www.xlhtml.org and a script for using it with w3m is at
http://www.spocom.com/users/gjohnson/mutt/excel2text. The xlHtml
package includes a PowerPoint to HTML converter, pptHtml, but it is
pretty limited. That is, pptHtml doesn't do a very good job of
rendering fancy presentations, but is nice to have when some induhvidual
sends a meeting announcement as a PowerPoint slide.
