I use this method:

macro index 1 "<change-folder>=mbox<enter>"
macro pager 1 "<change-folder>=mbox<enter>"
macro index 2 "<change-folder>=mutt-users<enter>"
macro pager 2 "<change-folder>=mutt-users<enter>"
macro index 3 "<change-folder>=procmail<enter>"
macro pager 3 "<change-folder>=procmail<enter>"
macro index 4 "<change-folder>=modperl<enter>"
macro pager 4 "<change-folder>=modperl<enter>"

And so on. You could choose any other key besides the number
keys, of course.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that
cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong
goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.
