/etc/hosts and mutt

What are the ramifications on mutt & sendmail if I edit
/etc/hosts?

It currently is:
  127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain

If I were to change it to:
  127.0.0.1 bozo clown.circus

What will it mess up, make better, cause me to change?
