Just so you're clear, Mutt (MUA) and Sendmail (MTA) perform different
but related functions. :-)

First off, any configuration alterations just for yourself would go
into ~/.muttrc; Mutt normally automatically sources this file on
startup.
There's the variable spoolfile which controls where Mutt looks for
your incoming mail. As for moving msgs from your spool to a file of
your own after they're read, maybe you could use/set mbox-hook. The
manual.txt file probably describes it better than I could, because I
don't use that feature personally.
