This means that the given file was not recognised to be any of the known
mail folder formats.

The most common way you can get this message (for a supposed mail
folder) is to have an mbox-format folder which doesn't begin with
"From ". These have to be the first 5 characters in the file in order
for Mutt to detect the folder correctly. You can fix this by possibly
using your favourite text editor to add the mbox-separator line, or
possibly by just removing (or moving) the folder and starting from
scratch, if there's nothing important in the folder. You may also use
the formail program from the procmail package to re-create a properly
formatted mbox-folder from a bad mbox-folder file.

Hope this helps,
Mikko
